Busker Cannon Resophonic Guitar

Cool little (parlor size) Welsh acoustic. I used it exclusively
on the album for bottleneck slide guitar - and thats quite a
lot of   tracks.  It's tuned to open G, my preferred slide tuning,
high to low D, B, G D. G D. Keith Richard often used to leave
off the 6th string in his version of this tuning so the lowest,
5th string, becomes the bass note.
Five Tracks available as an ep
or as separate mp3 downloads.
I love the Busker's  funky tone -  for slide playing  a resonator is the thing.  It was also used in standard tuning, for non-slide picking  here and there, too.  I'm thrilled with this instrument.

It's the guitar shown on the Stranger's Kiss EP sleeve.

Stranger's Kiss - Lyrics

Words and Music by
Dave Peters on Everyday Records

Track is available as a
separate mp3 download,
or on the EP
Stranger's Kiss
I met her standing by the door,
she swore she'd known me years before
she put her hand upon my wrist
and then I knew a stranger's kiss
she made me shiver to the core

I threw my ticket in the fire
I've been a thief but I'm no liar
there came a time I knew the bliss
the sweetest taste a stranger's kiss
and of her love I'd never tire

(Chorus)
Hey up hey yea, Hey up hey yea,
Na na na na na na na na
Hey up hey yea, Hey up hey yea,
Na na na na na na na na

And so I asked her heart to gain
 Copyright  Screamsville UK
What did she know of love's refrain
she said she one time knew the bliss
and she would some time reminisce
she would recall him now and then

It's just a line that time stands still
and so we taste a bitter pill
she'd not forget the lonely bliss
I pray confess and tell you this
well nor have I - I never will
(Repeat Chorus)

Stranger's Kiss
Oh well I'm fixin' to be leavin', one of these days
The way you misbehavin' and your sneaky out ways
Well I'm'na outtna warn ya, one last time
You're actin' like a fool and that's a doggone crime
I outta up and quit ya,
Guess that's the best I can do
Cause I don't want no aggrievation,
That's all I ever get from you.

Oh well you tellin me I never cut the mustard
You're causin me to worry and you're gettin' me flustered
You make me shimmy, you make a me shake
It comes from me winds up with you you call that give and take
I outta up and quit ya,
Guess that's the best I can do woh yeah
Cause don't want no aggrievation,
That's all I ever get from you.

Eve said to Adam " You a little bit tempted?
Why don't you come and lay with me I'm heavenly scented!"
Well wouldn't cha just a know it, he bit and lost his way
The next time that we'll hear from him is judgement day.

SOLO

Oh well the moral of the story, if you're in despair
Try tellin ' some one else, cos I don't even care
Strung out on a line, one time too often,
Don't matter what you say to me I ain't gonna soften
I outta up and quit ya,
If that's the last thing I do, oh yeah,
A mess of aggrievation,
That's all I ever get from you.

I feel like I've fallen off the edge of the earth
Nobody knows me, I'm left with no worth
I'll save you tryin' to call me
You see I've gotten no news
I guess you'd best describe me as the
Man with the lazy day blues

I'm sittin' all alone, I'm all by myself
but that's just how I like it, it's better for my health
I'm busy doin' nothin'
I've paid up all of my dues
I guess you'd best describe me as the
Man with the lazy day blues

My baby up and left me, I never knew she would
But that's ok she's gone away, could even say it's good
I'm lookin' out the window, prefer the air in here
Nothin's being written, the lines are all unclear

I'm movin' onto nowhere
I'm stayin' where I am
You see I'm the original, goin' nowhere man
There's nothin' that I'm needing
I`ll give you plenty clues
Let there be no confusion I'm the
Man with the lazy day blues

SOLO

My baby up and left me, to find a place to be
so tell her when her phone don't ring, she'll know it isn't me
I'm lookin' out the window, prefer the air in here
Nothin's being written, the lines are all unclear

I'm movin' onto nowhere, I'm stayin' where I am
You see I'm the original, goin' nowhere man
There's nothin' that I'm needing
I`ll give you plenty clues
I guess you'd best describe me as the
Man with the lazy day blues
Until further notice I`m the man with the lazy day blues.

Girl (You Took the Heart of Me) - Lyric

Words and Music by
Dave Peters on Everyday Records

Track available as a
separate mp3 download,
or on the EP
Stranger's Kiss
Girl you took the heart of me
Girl you're such a part of me,
I need you by my side

Girl are you a runaway
If I asked you would you stay,
Or would you run and hide

But if you're thinkin' of leaving, you best be going soon
It's only my way of greivin' to be howlin' at the moon

Girl you got me in your hands
And thats the way the story pans,
We never saw  it through.

If you fell down from the sky
I'd love you still and that's no lie,
That's all I’d ever do.
My heart's beatin out time and there's no rhythm no rhyme

(Chorus) Should I beg you to stay, baby don't go away
I'm beggin’ beggin’ you stay, baby don’t go away

Girl you took the heart of me
My soul's on show for all to see
My world is in your hands.

It's unkind to run away
And in my mind you'd always stay
But you'd made other plans
My heart's beatin out time and there's no rhythm no rhyme

(Chorus) Should I beg you to stay, baby don't go away
I'm beggin beggin you stay, baby don’t go away

You could be showin' a better way of knowin' with every word being true
I can't stop cryin' no, no point in even tryin' , it's only me and you

Slide Guitar Solo

Girl you took the heart of me
You made a show for all to see,
My world is in your hands

It's unkind to run away
And in my mind you'd ever stay
But you'd made other plans
One last embrace and you're leavin' you leave me howlin' at the moon

(Chorus) Should I beg you to stay, baby don't go away
I'm beggin beggin you stay, baby don’t go away

(Repeat Chorus)

Stranger's Kiss EP - Liner Notes

Stranger's Kiss EP
official artwork by
Everyday Records
Stranger's Kiss

Written in Nice, France on my little Baby Taylor travel guitar (hand luggage, very handy). To me, the song  sounds  like a Russian folk song,  maybe. Or late sixties Eurovision.  Bass and accordion parts invented and played by Helen.

I’ll Tell Me Ma

I perform this on my mandolin in shows and it usually gets a good response. I thought it would be cool to record it. We got it down in one 4 hour session with just a couple of minor alterations later. Some of the parts are first takes, which is always a good feeling. Antoria acoustic mandolin, Tanglewood acoustic guitar, Tanglewood violin bass. Mike played a Gretsch kit with a Ludwig snare on all the tracks.

Lazy Day Blues

That’s the way I was feeling when I wrote it, it’s definitely autobiographical.
Lovin’ Spoonful attitude maybe, and there’s not a lot of instrumentation  on it. Less is more, to a point.

 Aggravation Blues

We  doubled up the acoustics, one to the left, one the right, - we do this often,  I think it gives a rich interesting  sound. The slide is  my Busker Cannon Resophonic acoustic.
Harmonica is in C, making it play blues in G. I worked that out for myself decades ago, it was a revelation at the time! (Now it's common knowledge).
Helen on bass on this track.

Girl (You took the heart of me)

I felt it would be interesting to sing the chorus in falsetto to get that Smokey Robinson feel, and it’s played in Smokey Robinson major sevenths too. Verse goes from 6ths to 7ths – that’s not as complicated as it sounds, it’s just two guitar chord shapes. The slide guitar is double tracked and was a drop-in from Screamsville Studios, as were the harmonies in the solo.

All tracks -  a massive  thank-you goes to:-

Helen Walker -  for inspiration,  mixing, engineering, and belief,
Mike Walker - fantastic on drums / percussion.

Just as with the Rock 'n' Roll Outsider album, without Helen and Mike,  the recordings absolutely couldn't have happened! XX.

That Girl's No Good For Me

I always knew one day you'd up and leave me,
I felt within my heart you'd break away
You promised you would not misunderstand me,
You'd talk about a love and how that can be

With every step I take my heart is breaking,
If only you would change your mind and stay,
I touch your hand to stop my own from shaking,
So tell me that you'll listen, listen when I say

(Chorus) Stay in my heart don't you go
Stay in my heart for ever more
Stay with me baby dont go
Stay in my heart for ever more.

You took your time to tell me that you loved me,
You didn't really mean the words you'd say
You got to think you flew so far above me
You laughed when you said love would find a way

With every change of step my heart is breaking,
Why would it be so hard for you to stay,
I touch your hand to stop my own from shaking,
So tell me that you'll listen, listen when I say

CHORUS

It's not a mystery, it's not a fantasy,
How can I make you see, just what you mean to me
Don't ever let me down, just always be around
And tell me that you'll never , never ever go
CHORUS
SOLO
CHORUS

I'll ask you once again within the coda,
Just ask you once again then never more.

Klarissa - Lyric

I`ve been chasin' down the alley in the drivin` rain
I`ve been lookin` for you honey but I can't remain
Shall I take it that you take it that our lovin`s through
And you`ll never now be knowin` what I`m gonna do
I outta leave a message gonna get out fast
I`ve met the girl Klarissa and its gonna last

I been waitin` down the alley but you never show
Though you said that you were fakin' it was really so
So you take a hit of sugar got to pay the price
Now I'm gonna tell you one time and that should suffice
You may not be the woman in the lookin` glass
I met the girl Klarissa and its gonna last

I`ve been drivin' through the city tryn'a get it right
And when you said that it was maybe it was really might
Why don't you take it back and put it on the shelf?
'Cause when you're lookin' at me baby you just see yourself
I got another kind o` lovin` that`s-a built to last
I met the girl Klarissa and she`s pretty fast

Klarissa, Klarissa Klarissa Klarissa
Well its you who done the dealin` but I`m gonna pass
Talk about Klarissa and its gonna last.

I'm talkin' 'bout Klarissa, I'm talkin' 'bout Klarissa
I'm talkin' 'bout Klarissa, I'm talkin' 'bout Klarissa
Waited so long then she came along ah ha
I'm talkin' 'bout Klarissa.
(Repeat last verse)

Wouldn – cha think by now I`d know
Where she's goin' I outta not go
I'm not the kind o' guy who knows no fear
I`ve had my troubles, I'm up to here
Wrapped around her finger and I don't know why
She says jump and I say how high

I heard it said I'll get no rest
And wind up in a sorry mess
There's a rumour goin' round
She's a pickin' me up an' she's a puttin' me back down
Wrapped around her finger and I don't know why
She says jump and I say how high

(There's a rumour, There's a rumour,
There's a rumour goin' round round
There's a rumour,There's a rumour
Pick me up just a puttin' me down down)

Wouldn – cha think it's safe to say
There's no doubt she'll get her way
I should have known she'd play an ace
And never ever tell me really tell me to my face
Wrapped around her finger and I don't know why
She says jump and I say how high

Wired - lyric

I didn't call ya and it didn't feel good
I didn't see a single reason I should
I stand in line but  nothin's comin my way
I'm in a fix and I got no way to pay
Stood in the hall I was humbled and tired
I'd maybe come back - you'd know I'd be wired

I lit a fire in a house made of straw
Some body saw me a-breakin the law
Roarin' up a ruckas ridin' out on a storm
Not had a lucky break not since the day I was born
I got out quick, it can't be denied
I made an exit, before I got wired

(Chorus) Wired in the city, you know the way I feel
Wired in the jungle I got it and it's real
Wired in the primary, wired in the heat
The way that I'm a-feelin' I'm a dead on my feet

SOLO

I gotta find me a way out this hole
I gotta find me a woman with soul
Who's raised upon a ruckas ridden out on a storm
Who wears a voodoo charm and doesn't sleep until dawn
We'd quit that mess before we got fired
If they was lookin' they'd see we was wired

(Chorus) Wired in the city, you know the way I feel
Wired in the jungle I got it and it's real
Wired in the primary, wired on the beat
The way that I'm a feelin' I'm-a dead on my feet

You long gone mama, you so hard to find
You long gone mama, you so hard to find
A soul like yours could ease my troubled mind

You female instinct, makes a man aware
You female instinct, give a man a scare
You widow spider, you got your love to spare

You slipstream mama you make me feel so good
You slipstream mama you make me feel so good
Come on honey I really wish you would

Solo 12 bar

You fuel injection you give me a natural high,
You fuel injection when you just walk on by,
It comes so easy, you don’t never try

You slipstream mama you make me feel so good
You slipstream mama you make it understood
Come on honey I really wish you would

Solo (12 bar), Outtro solo (12 bar).

(Extra verse -  not recorded)
You lucked out mama, you reap just what you sew,
You lucked out mama, you reap your wheat real low
I lucked out early, I surely outta know.

One of these days, and it won't be long

They say the time, it's a wrong right now
Don't pay them no mind. anyhow

You got me on the floor, and I can't take much more
You got me on my knees, I'm beggin' please please

Forgive me , just a one more time
We'll roll that sunset oh so sublime
Take my hand and lead me baby
Take my heart believe me
Come on home, baby bring it on home.

Dave Peters on Everyday Records

Don't ask her mamma, she says that I'm a deadbeat
Don't ask her daddy, he only goes in retreat
Don't ask her sister, she won't see how you missed her
Don't ask her brother, he'll hide her under cover
Be careful who you ask, watch out what they say,
She's my baby that's the way it's gonna stay.

Don't ask her teacher, he won't know how to reach her
Don't ask her lawyer, the last time that he saw her
Don't ask her driver, to him she's a conniver,
Don't ask her baker, he'll say she's just a faker
Be careful who you ask, watch out what they say,
She's my baby that's the way it's gonna stay.

SOLO

I outta go back, to check that she's a Slovak,
I outta find her just so's I can remind her
And if I ask her , I'll surely not regret it
Her inner karma, I'll like as not upset it
Be careful who you ask, watch out what they say,
She's my baby that's the way it's gonna stay

A hey hey hey hear what I say
Or wind up in disarray
Said I'm really through with you
Gonna find myself somebody new

Gonna pack up a one more time
Roll it on over further down the line
Shut your eyes and baby count to ten
Open 'em wide and I'm gone again

GUITAR SOLO

A hey hey hey hear what I say
Or wind up in disarray
Just about getting' over you
Say now what I'm gonna do

Dave Peters on Everyday Records

Never been without my guitar, not since the age of four,
I used to rock the rhythm, sat on a linen floor.
To play some lonesome boogie, I’d walk a thousand miles
I’ve been around forever and I ain’t no rock ‘n’ roll juvenile

Back when Johnny L, was still in kinder shorts
we was blowin’ twelve bar, that’s me and my cohorts.
We’d play a lonesome boogie, we’d spin it out for a while
I was always left of centre  and I ain’t no rock ‘n’ roll juvenile

SOLO

The heat is in the tempo, just like it was before
you say you wanna rock it, I wanna roll it more.
We’d play a lonesome boogie, never been outta style
my heart is in the rhythm and I ain’t no rock ‘n’ roll juvenile

I ain’t no rock ‘n’ roll juvenile, I ain’t no rock ‘n’ roll juvenile
I’ve been around forever and I ain’t no rock ‘n’ roll juvenile

Sleepy Dog Blues - lyric

Well you slanderised me though it'll do you no good
I  kinda got to thinking that I knew that you would
And you're sniping at me like I'm an old alley cat
I didn't heed a warning, eventually you'd try to get me back

Well I'm stating my case measuring every word
You made up allegations and they're quite absurd
I'm in a world of trouble oh my oh my
Did no one ever tell you put it in the past and get on by?
And let the sleepy dog lie

Are you still sure, it was so long ago
You heard a whisper and you don't know
You picked your time, you turn on the charm
it's evident you mean to do me harm

I swear it didn't happen it's a pure hear say
I'm standing here such a price to pay
Denied it all, but what's the use,
It's come apparant, you gonna go and blow a fuse

Now they're taking me away and they thrown away the key
Poor old sad old lonely old me
I'm in a world of trouble, my oh my
No-one ever tell you put it in the past, get on by?
And let the sleepy dog lie
Woh yeah

You could a left him alone
He's just a dog with a bone
Now he's a long long long  long way from home
No more to roam

That Girl's No Good For Me - lyric

Track is available as a 2 track single,
separately,
or on the album
Rock 'n' Roll Outsider
Words and music copyright
Dave Peters on Everyday Records

That girl's so hard to find,
and she will change her mind
She'll say she wants you,
well I've heard that too
That girl' still making me blue

I thought that she'd be mine,
and I'd just play for time
I tried to keep her,
that I couldn't do
That girl's no good for me,
and that's good for you

Just as we broke the mould, that's when her heart runs cold
Good as it gets to be, still I beg, for sympathy

I saw it fall apart, I let her break my heart
I still want her, but that's nothing new
That girl's no good for me, And that's good for you

Solo

Just as you start you stop, you'll never reach the top
I'd pay the deuce today, to make this heartache, go away

Right now I'm history, just one more used to be
I still want her, but you want her too
That girl's no good for me, and that's good for you.

Good for you, good for you, good for you.
Right now it's good for you,
But you don't know what she might do

There'll come a time when you'll be out of your mind
Then you'll agree you should have listened to me

But right now it's good for you (repeat line three times).

Rock 'n' Roll Outsider Album - liner notes

Rock 'n' Roll Outsider Album
Artwork by  Everyday Records

1. Livin' End
See separate post. (Track is a single release).

2. Shut Your Eyes and Baby Count to Ten
I was in a Beatles versus Chuck Berry frame of mind when we recorded this one. I think maybe the verses have an extra bar, making it a 13 bar blues. In a stylistic way this is a follow up to "Boogie Woogie 'Till The Cows Come Home".
When Mikey (Mike Walker) put on his fab drumming, it raised the whole thing ten notches. Rockin’!
(Electric guitars on this track are the Ibanez Musician seen on the album cover.
Mike played a Gretsch kit with a Ludwig snare on all tracks).

3. Klarissa
I wanted a rock and roll record with the tempo of the words adding to the rhythm, that was my intention in the song.
Hamer Newport lead guitar in song solos, and Ibanez Musician on the outtro, played through my  old Big Muff  fuzzbox and a wah wah pedal.
I think this is a song for a rainy city night.

4. Sleepy Dog Blues.
We completely recorded this one twice. The first version had a different tempo, feel, chords and spoke about frying chicken (that lyric had to go, and quick). Maybe it was another song anyway.
Double tracked tremolo intro guitar,  Busker Canon acoustic slide and Dion and the Belmonts inspired backing vocals in the interlude. It's not actually a blues.

5. Wired
This one was written in Cyprus, it's funny but I had "All I Wanna Do" by  Sheryl Crow in my mind at the time, yet obviously it bears no resemblance to that record at all. It was something to do with how I imagined the production style. I think I resisted the temptation to over-play lead guitar and kept the thing in control. I reckon it's the old "what you leave out" that counts.

6.She Says Jump (and I Say How High)
Just a little story. An all acoustic track -  guitars, mandolin, violin bass, drums. Laid back. There's  a million ways you could do this song, but we just kept it simple.

7. Twangin' With Mr. P
First track recorded for these sessions, the lead was played on my Cort MGM1 guitar with no tremolo arm, so the low E twangs were done by turning the machine head. Originally the  track was totally a Duane Eddy guitar thang, only  later did we add the harmonica part. By then it was already called Twangin’ with Mr P, and  I had to really be careful not to replicate “Groovin’ with Mr Bloe” on the harmonica!! Kinda spooky that it was already similarly named !!
I heard this in my mind as a rock ‘n’ roll dance floor type groove.

8 She's My Baby That's The Way It's Gonna Stay
I was tempted to call this "Keep Yo Greasy Hands Offa Of Her" but it wouldn't scan, perhaps luckily. This track I think is what I would define as my "style", if such a thing exists. When we put down the basic track, (actor) David Crellin was also in the studio and  his enthusiasm was encouraging.
Helen added some Hammond Organ and that really lifted the track to another level. Cool.

9. Baby Bring It On Home
Not to be confused with the Bobby D album of similar title! Mandolin and acoustic guitar are doubled up to play the backing riff, with the electric guitar parts on my Ibanez Musician played through a Boss compressor.
We added  backing vocals in the second interlude only, to build the thing a little.

10. Slipstream Mama
I love to play guitar to the twelve bar blues template, (in this case it's my Washburn HB35 semi). Most parts we got down within the first couple of takes.
These type of songs self-write, and are good to play live.
Song had more lyrics than we could use.

11. I Ain't No Rock 'n' Roll Juvenile
Very last track recorded for these sessions. Originally I was intending to do an old folk song I'd re arranged, but some how I couldn't get it to groove as I wanted it to. So "Juvenile" was written for the album at the eleventh hour. The writing took no time at all really - maybe an hour, and does sit in with the general album vibe. I left this in Helen's capable hands with my additional improvised guitar solos, to be left out or added in as necessary. Probably more left out than added in.

12. That Girl's No Good For Me
See separate post. (Track is  a single release).

In the making of the  album my deepest gratitude goes to ;-

Helen Walker - Everyday Records

Helen Walker (Everyday Records) for her great work, musical brilliance, friendship and endless patience. Helen  listened to every single note.

Mike Walker - Everyday Records

Mike Walker ( Everyday Records) for his support and  incredible drumming. When he plays that acoustic kit, I hear a symphony!

Livin' End Single - liner notes

Livin' End - Single artwork.
Livin' End
As soon as we recorded this I knew  it should be the pre- album single, it sort of sets the tone. I wrote it while driving home from a gig and I sang it into a tape recorder when I got in. I could hear Roy Orbison singing it in my mind.  The final song isn’t that far removed from that first guitar-free draft. Incredibly, the initial rough tape-recorder demo, sans guitar, was even in the right key, E minor. That’s a rock ‘n’ roll key. And I just love Mike's rockabilly beat!
Recorded  on  my tatty old  red re-finished Epiphone Sheraton semi acoustic.

Long Leggy Woman (Blues Version)  (B side only - not on album)
Messing around busking on my guitar, as is my wont, I was absent-mindedly playing this song, and I found myself doing it E, which is a lower key to the original, and with a much different feel too. I hadn’t actually noticed at first it was one of my own songs. I felt the funky groove gave the song a completely new lease of life, and so we have a 2012 version.

Tanglewood acoustic Earth 200LH.

It's quite amazing how well guitars are built these days. This guitar cost me very little, and we used it on virtually every  track on the album, on both singles, and  on the new ep too. I think it sounds just fine, with a  nice full tone. I have had it set up - almost every guitar I own I have set up, so that's the norm.

It's been to a few countries with me, and its been knocked about, but that's ok.

Livin' End (Single) - Lyrics

Livin' End

Words and Music copyright Dave Peters on Everyday Records

Hold me baby hold me close and tight   gimme your lovin' all through the night
Now you're near it's gonna be alright  I wanna love you honey with all my might

And your love you bring, you're like a bird you sing
You're like a diamond ring, and you're the livin' end

I hear you say you'll never let me go, well I feel so good that you just got to know
I'll say I now and then you'll understand oh on my word I'll always be your man

And your love you bring, you're like a diamond ring
It's a natural thing, and you're the livin' end

Everybody, knows the score, what it is, and what it's for,
I've been waitin' oh so long, for your love, to come on strong

Tell me that you're always gonna feel the same,
Let me know it honey come on call my name
now you're near we'll set the world alight,
I wanna love you baby wanna hold you tight

SOLO

Tell me that you're always gonna feel the same.
Let me know it come on baby call my name
It's lookin' like we got a love to last and we
Live so easy and we live it so fast

It's a natural thing, and you're the livin' end
Take it baby shake it you're the livin' end
Honey can't you see that you're the livin' end
Livin' livin, livin end, Livin, livin, livin end
You're the livin' end  (repeat seven times)

Antoria Acoustic Mandolin.

Antoria acoustic  / Andy Farrell electric mandolins

Antoria Acoustic Mandolin converted to left hand.
My little, budget Antoria is the
only acoustic mandolin we used on the recordings, so if  if it sounds like an acoustic, it'll be the Antoria (and if it sounds like an electric, it's the Andy Farrell, also pictured, above). I've had it since about 1990 I guess, and new, I think it was about £100 UK. At the time I didn't seem to be able to get hold of a left hander so  I bought it and  had it converted.  I think it records well. The volume pot is redundant, a remnant  from my dismal attempt to electrify it.

That Girl's No Good For Me (single) - liner notes

That Girl's No Good For Me  - Single Artwork

That Girl's No Good For Me

I wrote this really quickly, once I'd got the guitar groove it more or less just tumbled out. Thinking Del Shannon in the middle eight harmonies, but they didn’t come out that way.
Starts with a Buzzcocks’ C sharp minor chord.

Stay in My Heart  (B side only-not on album)

Completely written way back, maybe 2002 - ish. I think a rough demo of this may be the very first thing I ever put down at Wilderswood Studios.    I always thought this would be a good song for a girl singer, and I still do. I think it could be played in a lot of different styles. This is how it comes out when I do it. Helen tells me she aimed for an atmospheric Walker Brothers  sound with the vocals, quite different for one of my records.

Tanglewood Violin Bass RVB-2

I wanted a violin bass to get that famous retro  sound, and  also because I think  they're beautiful. I was originally after a Hofner of course. It turns out that Hofner come in three price brackets, that's  cheappo,  reasonable, and blummin' ek! This alternative Tanglewood model was recommended to me by a muso freind in the know - now  don't let the moniker fool you, it plays great. So much so, I've  used it on virtually all my 2012 recordings.  I got it second hand, but in pristine condition, and it was already set up perfectly. Very very  easy to play.

Solid Body Andy Farrell Electric Mandolin

I'd tried previously and unsuccessfully to amplify my acoustic mandolin for live work - I got a poor amplified sound and unwanted feedback, so the answer for me was a solid body instrument. This really meets the bill. It's hand made, it's intonation and action is spot on, and it stays in tune. I use this now on every gig, and it has normally remained completely in tune from it's last outting.  If it got lost or stolen, I'd definately get another. I notice Andy's got  some really pretty tiger-ry  finish ones in his catalogue - I'd probably order one of those.

Rockin' With Dave Peters EP Liner Notes

EP artwork by Everyday Records
Boogie Woogie 'Till The Cows Come Home
Completely written before we started recording, I'd played this live a few times, so it was just a case of deciding a key and laying it down, really. I still play this song on gigs fairly regularly- it's got a groove and usually goes over.
Long Leggy Woman
(Notes on the 2009 recording - re- recorded as a Blues in 2012) :-
I wrote  the most part of this in my head while I was driving along, and  scribbled it down as soon as I stopped. Sometimes a song can come along like that. It`s capo-ed acoustic guitar ( dropped D tuning). Helen Walker on bass and Mike Walker on drums.

You're Sure Lookin' Good To Me
I`ve got a fuzz box and I`m going to use it! . The track's signature sound  is my ancient  Big Muff (see pic) -the world's least subtle distortion pedal, from the days when pedals were pedals.
This was a fairly straight forward  recording - we kept the instrumentation to a minimum. I think its just slide Epiphone Sheraton lead, a couple of rhythm guitars, Dean bass , Mikey W on drums , and lead vocal complete with slapback echo. Although there was a temptation to sing it an octave higher, which would be more natural for me, I resisted. As far as the instrumentation goes, simplicity rules !

.....I got a fuzzbox....

Tell Me Ma LYRICS

Track is availableas a separate download,
or on the ep
Stranger's Kiss

 Traditional, arranged Dave Peters
(Chorus)
I'll tell me ma when I go home
The boys won't leave the girls alone
They pulled me hair they stole me comb
But that's alright ‘till I go home

She is handsome she is pretty
She is the belle of Belfast City
She is courting one, two, three
Pray would you tell me who is she

(Verse 1)
Albert Mooney says he loves her
All the boys are fighting for her
They knock at the door
And they ring on the bell say
"hello my love are you well"

Out she comes as white as snow
With rings on her fingers
And bells on her toes
Mary Clabby says she'll die
If she doesn't get the fellow with the roving eye

CHORUS

(Verse 2)
Let the wind and the rain and the hail blow high
And the snow come tumbin’ from the sky
She's as sweet as apple pie
She'll get her own lad by and by

When she gets a lad of her own
She won't tell her ma till she gets home
Let them all come as they will
it’s Albert Mooney she loves still

CHORUS
REPEAT CHORUS

What's On Your Mind LYRICS

Words and Music by Dave Peters (unreleased)

Is there some sign as to what I might find,
I'm in some doubt I can't figure it out
Are you looking for something,
but you won't say what it is
You left me a note but it hadn't been signed
so won't you tell me what's on your mind.

Is that a smile, it's been gone for a while
I get around but you're bringin' me down
is this as good as it gets, or are you  hedging your bets
You'd hidden a note that you knew that I'd find
Now won't you tell me what's on your mind

If you need it baby just concede it
It may be gone by the end of the day
You can take it, honey you can fake it
(yeah)

I'll be back tomorrow I'm passing this way
I'll speak as I find and I got some thing to say
Are you looking for something, but you won't say what it is
You left me a note you omitted to sign
Now won't you tell me what's on your mind

Long Leggy Woman (Blues version) LYRICS

Track available separately
or on the single
Livin' End
(Song appears as flipside of "Livin'End")
Words and Music by
Dave Peters on Everyday Records

Ah that Creole Belles got me feelin’ alright
Round about half the day and into the night
I was dancin’ with a woman, just about twice my height

Long leggy woman, got a hold on me
Long leggy woman, got-ta give it all to me
That stretched out mama, surely is a sight to see.

Just a little taste of honey makes it seems so good
I take that sweetened sugar, anytime she would
That straight backed mama’s thinnin’ out my blood

Long leggy woman, got a hold on me
Long leggy woman, got ta give it all to me
That straight backed mama's re-written my philosophy

Long leggy woman, about a long leggy woman.
Long leggy woman, long leggy woman.

Dion (DiMucci) Tankful of Blues, new album.........

.......... is out in a couple of hours,an' I'm going to get it get it get it rightaway! There's no guesswork on it's merit - the songs have been on preview for a while - and how could there be any doubt in any case, it's Dion, man!! I paid 18 euros for one of his albums in a Berlin store last year, knew that was over the bidding, but it just looked right. Son of Skip James. Then I remembered. Dion became the voice of that year, sure he's fixing to be the voice of this year too. I back tracked some of his other albums Bronx in Blue , and Yo Frankie being my faves. Best voice in Rock 'n' Roll, no contest.

Sandie Shaw on Jools` Hootenanny

I'm amazed to see Ms Shaw being slated for her performance. Everybody sees things differently I guess, cause I thought she was superb !!! Voice, legs, attitude, legs, songs. Did I mention legs?
